St. Margaret's Church & Schools, Walsgrave Road

Camera No. 12

The foundation stone for St. Margaret's Church was laid on the 29th January 1910, and the building opened in 1911. For the two years prior to that, services were held nearby at the Coronet Works, which became the Humber Works, on the corner of Far Gosford Street and Paynes Lane - later to become Lloyds Bank.
Badly damaged during WW2 air-raids, the church was restored in 1954 (information from the Victoria County History of Warwickshire). The first photo below is from a postcard sent in 1913, so the picture was probably taken soon after it opened two years earlier.
